I am an experienced English teacher who has worked in secondary schools for the over 20 years. I am also an AQA Lead Examiner and and Adviser to more than 150 schools for English Language A Level. I have Advanced Diplomas (post degree) in both Language and Literacy and in Child Development. English Language is my passion though, of course, I have taught GCSE Literature as part of my professional role in school and I love teaching the texts associated with the requirements of the course. I enjoy working with teenagers at both GCSE and A Level though my specialist Language knowledge is particularly relevant to A Level Language students. Increasingly, however, this in depth knowledge is relevant to GCSE English students. I am happy to work with all levels and relish the opportunity to engage with individuals who are seeking to increase their knowledge and understanding of the key requirements for both GCSE and A level courses. I am happy to work online to work one to one with pupils and help them to develop their skills through close monitoring and feedback. I have a current DBS certificate which allows me to teach in the UK and I complete online child protection courses each year as required. I am currently voluntarily working with Ukrainian adults who are keen to enhance their English Language skills. I have also worked extensively overseas in The Gambia, Bhutan and Tonga working with students at secondary and college levels (VSO).
My lessons & teaching style
I am very much student centered and tailor my lessons to student requirements whilst making sure that the elements of the course are covered in detail. I will offer advice and feedback regarding various elements of the course being covered and will endeavor to ensure that strengths are rewarded and reinforced whilst ensuring that any weaknesses are considered in detail and addressed. I think it is important to build a rapport with my students in order for them to feel confident in airing their concerns but also recognizing their strengths.
